please tell me how we take backup in tape using RMAN or User managed backup when our database running on solaris please brief me because I know the procedure in windows

Before 10g you have to buy a media manager.
In 10g and up, just set the parameters for backup type sbt.

Even with 10g you need a MML, however you can use Oracle's free solution Secure Backup to serve as your MML. This is free as long as you are backing up one server attached to one tape device.

i know that in RMAN we have to configure tape channel for backup and recovery.but without rman using OS command how we take backup. I mean that using TAR in solaris.using rman it is very simple.

Usin OS cp command to take backup..

And tar command is used to compress backup so that it takes less disk space.

Dear sir

i have few questions to clarify please try to solve below queris:

1- Please tell me if there any way for cloning database with out shutting down the database..

2- how can i set oracle password enable

coz when i log on into server
there is no restriction to specify the oracle password i mean database password simply i can type like below:

$sqlplus

sql>conn sys as sysdba
password> no need to enter

how can i restrict this

please guide me

about 1.RMAN DUPLICATE, DBCA Template, Data pump EXPORT/Import.

2. Just remove the user from sysdba group of OS.
