i have to register 2 databases with Recovery catalog. databases name is same.

How to register them with recovery catalog.

its a IBM interview question.

connect to rman and use "register database".
Database name must not be unique; DB ID must.

i know the database name must not be same......that is the problem. that how i'll register both to catalog?

My sentence should be read as database name have not to be different, so you can have 2 databases with the same name.

sorry sir actully i want to say that can we register database whose db_name is same with catalog? i think we can't.

Gentleman,
For Recovery catalog db_name has no meaning. It identifies the databases using DB ID only.
For eg.
Say we have 2 databases in the same name as "test", when we register the databases, recovery catalog goes by DB ID.

DB_NAME1 = test DB ID = 2000
DB_NAME2 = test DB ID = 2001

In this case recovery catalog see 2 databases, one as 2000 and another as 2001.

THis is what Michel is repeatedly telling u.
