Hi,

We have a level 0 hot backup of our production server. One of the users in the maintenance environment has dropped a huge table. i want to restore that particular database from the tape backup. both the databases have same structures. Can a backup be used to restore into the same database only?? How can this be done??

Sorry, I meant i want to recover that particular "tablespace " and not "database". Thank you.

With rman you can just restore specific tablespaces.
REstore to a different database and export the table you want.

in 10g, you might have a chance with recycle bin/flashback drop
