Hi

Can the archived logs generated in one database be applied to a different database with the datafile names

What do you expect from doing this.
Are you thinking about standby database on a different node?.
Then they should be applied Smile .
I you want to extract information from the archived logfiles you should think about using logminer.
Look in the utilities about logmining if you want to extract information on another database.
But as ebrian states you will normally not be able to apply the redologs on another database.

What I exactly want is to have a Backup database of our production database, at a remote location few kilometers away. Onto this I want to apply the redo logs generated by the main production database

For that, you should consider Data Guard.

But I use Oracle 9.2, where data guard feature is not available
