We understand that Legato Networker acts as an intermediary between the Networker Server and RMAN. Is Legato NW also required (ie mandatory) when usage is made of EMC BCV technology?

I do not think so. But i may be wrong. Recently we had a talk with EMC and folks were trying to sell BCV and they did not mention anything about legato ( we use VERITAS).
I would rather ask the EMC folks itself.
