Hello folks,

I was assign a task to configure a RMAN for 10gR2 and I have no experience at all. I have some questions.

- In a production environment, is it true that I need 2 database servers? One for production and another to keep the RMAN catalog?
- If I have a RMAN server, do I need to configure RMAN on production server?

Any guide that I can follow? Thank you.

Yes It it true. But not must.

If I have a RMAN server, do I need to configure RMAN on production server?

Your mean Catalog database. RMAN is utility for Server managed Bkp and Recovery.

In addition to the links user52 supplied, you may want to read over Oracle Database Backup and Recovery Basics. Backup & Recovery is something you don't want to get wrong.
