We have 10g database on Redhat
I want to restore the database as of end of Aug 2006 for auditors.
We do have system backup files.

How do I do this? What all files do I need from the backup?

Question is,
what kind of backup you have.
Obviously, you are talking about restoring the production database to a freeze/test database for auditing.
If you have your month-end backup as cold backup, just restore all the files.
If you use RMAN, do a point-in-time duplication.

Talk to your DBA.

Thanks for the reply Mahesh.
I am the DBA and has not done this earlier.
I know I have to get datafiles, log files and control files and init.ora.
Is there any file I am missing?

You still have not answered any of my questions.
It seems that you are using/having a cold backup.
In that case, get all the datafiles, logfiles, controlfiles , initsid etc ( in 10g, you must be using spfile.ora instead intsid.ora)
To do this, you also need a traced (textfile) controlfile ( using alter database backup control file to trace).
Please Search the board for cold copy.
You get many examples
