Hi,
In the place iam working they want weekly, monthly and yearly backups of the whole data in such a way that after taking the backup of the whole year we want the whole old data to be removed from that system and be backedup to elsewhere but should be able to retrieve the data whenever required.
Thanks.

Perhaps you could consider building a warehouse; having it, all history data would be accessible all the time, while production database would hold only this year's data.

If you do the backup (of course, that is really not an "IF" - what kind of a DBA doesn't have a valid backup?) and store it somewhere (tape, for example), it would take some time to restore it in order to make it accessible whenever required.

Therefore, I guess that you should have both versions up and running.

Thanks for the reply and Iam thinking to take a whole year tape backup plus this warehouse idea seems to be good because extracting data from the tape seems to be a little slow for the monthly backups itself,so can you please give me an idea for how to build this warehouse.
