How do I check when was the last full hot database backup successful in RMAN for both 8i and 10g target databases??

To connect to Recovery Manager from the OS.

Target DB: ACCT
RMAN DB: PAY

Eg:
-------
$ rman target internal/internal@acct rcvcat rman/rman@pay

RMAN > crosscheck backupset;
Gives a list of backupsets with their status (EXPIRED/AVAILABLE)

RMAN > list backup;
Gives a list of the backups done with their details
