i would like to know if i have existing datafiles and the coltrolfiles, but everything is lost
and
i have to do a new oracle installation.

can i restore back the database based on the old existing datafiles and controlfiles ???

1、you backup datafile and controlfile to new dictionary better.
2、you must install oracle software,and oracle's dictionary is same that old oracle program.
3、you can copy datafile and controlfile to old dictionary。
4、you edit a init.ora as you new init file.
5、then startup and resolve problem
