Sir
i have joined as a new Dba in a company , previously they have exported the database tables .Now what can i do , i want to take backup of the database,its related with a payroll , monthly once i have to take backup.Am working in oracle 9i , which one will be best.

I am biased.
I prefer RMAN. Takes a while to understand how it works. But worth the pain and you spend not a penny more.

hi
still am not able to understand , Now Database is give to me i have to take back ,i cannt shutdown the database it should run 24/7 so what can i do to take backup

Mahesh is referring to RMAN, the Oracle backup utility. You can use it without taking the database offline.

btw congratulations on getting a job as a DBA without knowing how to take a backup!
