I use RMAN in a separate host to back up the production database. Connection to target DB is:

RMAN> connect target backup01/PASSWORD@prodDB

What permission or roles should be given to the user backup01 in the production DB? I don't want to give the DBA or sysdba permission... Thanks.

You need to grant sysdba role. f not, you won't be able to use RMAN.

Best luck!
you can try RMV from www.otools.com.ar if you plan to do backup with RMAN.
